JET-HOT Australia would like to congratulate Maurice Fabietti on his fabulous
win at the 2008 Summernationals. Following is a description of how the meeting unfolded.
The sun could not have shone brighter for the Holden Genuine Parts/Fabietti
Race Team on the weekend of February 15 and 16. The Summernationals, one of
drag racing’s most prestigious events and one of its most attended beckoned
over 350 race teams to try their chances at winning drag racing’s most coveted
trophy – the ANDRA gold Christmas tree.
Of these 350 teams, 18 were to contest drag racing’s most popular bracket –
Top Doorslammer. And of these 18 only a handful were destined to make it into
the finals. By the end of qualifying on Friday night, in front of a huge crowd,
10 cars were relegated to the consolation B final or to their trailers. The
other eight were to meet the next day in what turned out to be a David versus
Goliath battle for the HGP Monaro. In eighth position the team qualified on
its last pass on Friday evening with an ET (elapsed time) of 6.17. Normally,
this would put you in the middle of the field, however the 2008 field saw the
fastest Top Doorslammer field in the bracket’s history.
As eliminations got underway, the Fabietti Race Team had to take on three of
the toughest, quickest and fastest teams currently in drag racing, two of which
are professional, full-time racers with multi-million dollar budgets.
The larger-than-life Deno Brijeski ran his personal best time in qualifying –
a 5.95. He was only the third Top Doorslammer to run sub six second passes
outside the USA. Aggressive, hungry for a win and desperate to back up his
five-second pass Brijeski lined up next to the HGP Monaro for round one.
Fractions of a second can mean the difference between a win and a loss. Brijeski
learnt this lesson the hard way with Fabietti leaving an entire three tenths of
a second on the green light. It was all that was needed to give the HGP Top
Doorslammer Monaro the win – Brijeski’s 5.99 to Fabietti’s 6.10. Brijeski may
have backed up his record, but the old adage of “you snooze you lose” could not
have rung more true in his ears at that moment. Fabietti was through to the next round.
At only 25 years of age, Benny “The Kid” Bray has accumulated a large cache of
drag racing accolades and a reputation to boot. What Bray may lack in years
over many of his opponents he more than makes up for in skill behind the steering
wheel of his Castrol Edge sponsored Monaro. The crowd roared as the two Holdens
faced off – one steered by the young, former Top Doorslammer champion, the other,
the local hero and underdog. In true, fairytale fashion the Kid experienced tyre
shake while the HGP Monaro surged ahead for an improved ET (and now personal best)
of 6.03 to Bray’s 9.62.
Top Doorslammer final. It was now time to take on the world’s quickest and most
consistent racer in Top Doorslammer of recent years – John Zappia. The HQ Monaro
proved the most feared Goliath of all. Zappia had consistently run 5.9 second
passes all day. As the HGP Monaro lined up against it’s older-style rival and
the revs began to build, Fabietti knew it was going to be a tough race. It proved
to be the race of his career. With 18,000-plus pairs of eyes focused on the two
cars, this pairing became the most anticipated race of the event.
As the lights came down, Fabietti streaked away with a five-hundredths holeshot
over his opponent. While Zappia may have run yet another 5-second time, he couldn’t
catch the flying HGP Monaro. The win lights flashed in the Fabietti Race Team’s
lane – a personal best of 6.000 and 240 mph established the winner of Top Doorslammer
for the 2008 Summernationals. Furthermore, this run will go down in the record
books as the quickest side-by-side Top Doorslammer race outside the USA.
For the HGP/Fabietti Race Team the taste of success was sweeter than ever before.
One David (or in this case one Maurice) took on three Goliaths and won.

more of the benefits of JET-HOT Sterling.
Heat reduction: JET-HOT Sterling when applied to exhaust headers or manifolds acts like a
thermal barrier and keeps the heat in side the headers, reducing under
bonnet temperatures. Independent test conducted at Daytona Speedway
showed how effectively JET-HOT reduces under bonnet temperature.
Improve Performance: JET-HOT Sterling when applied to exhaust headers it acts
like a thermal barrier and keeps the heat in side the headers, reducing
under bonnet temperature promoting denser, more potent fuel-air charges
at the same time reducing turbulence of exhaust flow by maintaining a
smooth surface on the headers interior.
Corrosion Protection: JET-HOT Sterling is from the Metallic Ceramic family of
coatings. Corrosion Resistance as tested in Accelerated Salt Spray
tests have proven that JET-HOT last over 5 times longer than other
Metallic Ceramics, more than 14 times longer than Chrome, and over
140 times longer than HI-TEMP paints.
Fantastic Looks: JET-HOT Sterling contains silver powder. This metal
gives JET-HOT Sterling an improved shine without compromising on
corrosion protection. Sterling shines with the best look yet in
high-temp, high tech coatings. JET-HOT Sterling provides lasting
beauty. Its appearance shares the brilliance of chrome and the
subtly of nickel. Other metallic-ceramic coatings look dull in
comparison. The RMS numbers (a measure of smoothness) demonstrate
how far JET-HOT has jumped ahead of other coatings. With the
addition of silver powder to our exclusive formula, we have
beautified our coatings by a factor of six on the RMS scale.
Introducing the NEW JET-HOT DIRECT HI-FLOW Header Series JET-HOT DIRECT new HI-FLOW Headers produces more power.
Why, because these headers have large primaries, mandrel bent
tubes and are all coated JET-HOT Sterling. Not only do they
look fantastic they provide higher gas flow that produces more
power. Check the headers in the JET-HOT DIRECT list marked
with 'Hi-Flow'
